Outside-Pheasant-Ridge-Sign

Pheasant Ridge is a proud, early pioneer of Texas’s commercial wine-making industry. The winery and vineyard have always been, since their founding, a family-owned operation. Pheasant Ridge is located right outside of Lubbock, Texas, in the appellation known as the Texas High Plains. Pheasant Ridge has been producing wine in West Texas for 28 years with the same winemaking team for the last 20 years. We are a boutique producer, the fourth oldest winery in the state, and all of our wines are 100% estate grown.

The vineyard, planted in 1979, currently encompasses 45 acres of grape vines running throughout the property. At 3,300 feet above sea level, Lubbock, despite its vastly different look, is an agricultural dead ringer for the Bordeaux region not only due to plentiful irrigation from the Ogallala Aquifer, but also, warm days and cool nights during the growing season and loamy, calcareous soil where roots burrow instinctively deep to draw from the rich abundance of nutrients.

The grapes we grow are traditional French varietals, perfectly suited to the soil and surprisingly well-adapted to the weather found on the High Plains. The seven different varietals are comprised of four red wine grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Noir; and three white wine grapes, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Semillon. Our fruit is hand-picked to ensure the highest quality and the winery's artisanal production boasts an average yield of approximately 5,000 cases per year.

The wines of Pheasant Ridge are never rushed. We craft our wines solely around the fruit with a minimalist approachletting the terroir guide us along the way. Our wines are French in style, delicately balanced, well-structured and perfectly paired with high Texas cuisine. Pheasant Ridge produces a wide range of varietal, blended and reserve winesexhibiting the classic traits of fine wine: richness, complexity and approachability. This classic style fits perfectly for wine drinkers who seek out wines of greater finesse and food-friendlinessmoving away from wines of unbridled alcohol and over-ripeness. We are honored by your interest in our wines. The things most important to us are, as always, our focus on quality, our passion for making fine wine and a belief in our customers’ desire to enjoy the fruits of our labor.
